...

But the place which you have selected for your camp, though never so rough and grim, begins at once to have its attractions, and becomes a very centre of civilization to you: "Home is home, be it never so homely."

Reading Rainbow - Celebrates The Art of Eric Carle

Like I said in my previous post, Aira & Aidan were signed up for Aksara Reading Rainbow. I asked Ade & her niece Amabel to join us, and they agreed. So today we met up at Aksara Kemang at 1 o'clock. Tante Kyra (Kutakatik Art & Craft Class) and her friend Tante Indri were already there and the art & craft session started right away. Kyra showed the kids some of the art works in Eric Carle's book as inspiration for today's activity.

Aira picked a picture from the book The Tiny Seed. While Aidan took this 'looking for inspiration' session as an opportunity to get Amabel's attention. The two of them flipped through a book for a while then decided to make a rainbow (plus a car, of course, for Aidan).

Hubby, Ade, and I then went upstair to have a cup of coffee. No surprise, when I went back in about 20 minutes, Aidan and Amabel were done with the artsy stuff, now running around the store. They only stopped when the snacks were served. A Very Hungry Caterpillar cupcakes and milk. Both kids enjoying their snacks (in about 5 minutes) then back to running around.

On the other hand, Aira enjoyed this artsy and crafty stuff very very much. She really took her time to 'recreate' an illustration from The Tiny Seeds. I think today was about her favorite things, books and craft, at the same place, at one time. :)

A Book & A Craft

I always admires people with creative ideas, especially they who share those ideas. My recent favorite is The Crafty Crow's A Book And A Craft Guest Blogger Series, where creative bloggers will share their favorite children's book and a (craft) project tutorial to go along with it. These are some that I like most: A Day With No Crayons, The Gruffalo,The Paper Bag Princess, and The Saggy Baggy Elephant.

And then, I found out that Aksara Bookstore having a program for children called Reading Rainbow, where books and art meet, they said. So each session will feature a different book and kids will create crafts (and also enjoy snacks) based on the featured story. The last two session was featuring my friend Kyra's (and her sister, Raya) art & craft class, Kutakatik. The first one was based on Candace Whitman's Lines That Wiggle, while the second one was based on Dr. Seuss's The Lorax.

I saw some great pictures about these events at Kyra's blog that  made me really wanna sign Aira & Aidan up to one of Reading Rainbow session in the future. Aira will sure love it! Aidan, well Aidan might make some mess but he'll have some fun too, I'm sure. So I did, I sign them up for this week's session which celebrates the art of Eric Carle. Oh yayy! :D

Her dream.

this is one of her..

Garden of Colors

This one is my favorite of all the workshop area at the Goelali Festival 2011. Gardening Artspace. It was located outside at the piazza but covered with a big white tent. And just like it's name, it was a garden and an artspace all rolled into one. It was decorated with painted pots and many plants. Oh I just love the sight of those rainbow colors all around the place. Love love love. Love love. Love! :D

And meet my 2 little gardeners-slash-artists. Painting their own pots and then filling them with dirt and fertilizer. Aidan sure took his painting seriously, just look at his face. While kakak Aira listened carefully to the tutor about how to take care of their plants at home. :D

We met Rio.

Yes we met Rio, the bird, not the girl from that Duran Duran song. Well, it was actually a Macaw bird, but Aidan called it Rio, because it looked like a bird from the animation movie Rio. We see these Macaw birds at the Goelali Festival today, they were being showed at the animal kingdom area, brought by Taman Safari Indonesia. It was too small to be called 'kingdom', actually, there were only 2 yellow-blue Macaw Birds and 1 big yellow snake. They said there will be a pony on Saturday thou.

We took some pictures with one of the bird. Since Aira and Aidan too scared, the zoo keeper just put the bird on my knee while the kids standing nearby. Aira then try to feed it with some corn given by the zoo keeper. Now I think I would really like to take the kids to a bird park, the one in Bali maybe. :)
